Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.)
Rusnė. Variety was created at the Agricultural Institute of the Lithuanian Agriculture and Forestry Research Centre. Value for cultivation and use (VCU) was tested in 2011–2012 at the Plant variety testing stations of Lithuania. Variety testing for uniformity, distinctness and stability (DUS) was accomplished in Poland. Variety Rusnė was registered and listed to the National list of Plant varieties in 2013.
It is very early variety: the beginning of inflorescence emergence of plants – early May, maturity of seeds – the beginning of July. The variety is very tall. According to data from the Plant testing stations, the height of the plants at the beginning of inflorescence emergence (before the first harvest) reaches 54.4 cm.
During the testing years the plants of the variety Rusnė produced 6.15 t/ha dry matter yield. The protein content at the beginning of the inflorescence emergence of plants – 10.9%, fiber – 29.1%, digestibility – 64.8% of the dry matter. Leaves compose up to 76.7%. The variety Rusnė is resistant to lodging (9 points).
The plants are winter-hardy, exhibit explosive spring growth and re-growth after cuts. It is suitable for grazing and haymaking. It is not suitable for making lawns.
