MEADOW FESCUE (Festuca pratensis Huds.)
Mituva. The meadow fescue variety was developed at the Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture. Variety testing for uniformity, distinctness and stability (DUS) was accomplished in Poland and in year 2009 listed to the Lithuanian National list of Plant varieties.
During the testing of this variety the average yield obtained was 7.94 t/ha of dry matter and 0.36 t/ha of seeds. The biggest harvest of dry matter of the Mituva meadow fescue on record 11.13 t/ha.
Over a period of several years the Mituva variety the amount protein in the herbage yield of the dry matter was determined to be from 11.8 to 14.2 percent, while the fiber content was from 21.1 to 22.3 percent. This cultivar is characterized by a relatively large amount of green leaf. The herbage yield is on average 54.1 percent. The winter hardiness of this fescue is assessed at an average of 8.2 points, and its resistance to lodging at 7.3 points. The average plant height is 65 cm. The average growth period of the Mituva variety of meadow fescue is 157 days (starting from January 1st until the first harvest).
