Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.)
Alduva. This variety of perennial ryegrass was developed at the Lithuanian Institute of Agriculture. Variety testing for uniformity, distinctness and stability (DUS) was accomplished in Poland and in year 2008 listed to the Lithuanian National list of Plant varieties and the European common catalogue of varieties of agricultural plant species.
During testing the variety produced an average of 7.30 t/ha of dry matter and 0.53 t/ha of seed yield. Under optimal conditions, 13.01 t/ha of dry matter was produced. Herbage yield mass in dry matter was recorded at 10.2 to 14.9 percent protein and 18.2 to 20.2 percent fibre. Dry matter digestibility up to 80%. The Alduva variety of perennial ryegrass is abundantly leafy – leafs amount on average 55.5 percent of the total herbage yield.
This variety is winter-hardy (Its winter-hardiness on average at 7.3 points), rapid spring growth and re-growth after cut or grazing, very resistant to leaf diseases. The average height of the Alduva variety of ryegrass – 65 – 75 cm, but the grass is susceptible to lodging. Its resistance to lodging assessed at 5.4 points. The average growing period of this ryegrass is 161 days (counting from 1 January until the first harvest).
