Black bent REDTOP (Agrostis gigantea Roth.)
Violeta. This variety of Bent grass was developed by the Agriculture Institute of the Lithuanian Agricultural and Forestry Research Centre. Variety testing for uniformity, distinctness and stability (DUS) was accomplished in Poland and in year 2011 listed to the Lithuanian National list of Plant varieties.
Testing of the economic value of the Violeta variety was conducted in 2009 and 2010 at the Lithuanian AVT (plant testing) stations of Plungė and Pasvalys. At these stations during the first year of testing it produced an average of 7.8 t/ha of dry matter and 0.21 t/ha of seeds. In the second year of testing at the Plungė AVT station it produced 9.8 t/ha of dry matter yield.
The amount of biomass in the dry matter of the Violeta variety was established for the individual years of the testing at 8.9 to 11.61 per cent crude protein, 17.3 to 27.63 percent fiber and from 40.0 to 52.0 percent leaf. This cultivar wintered relatively well during the testing. Its winter-hardiness was assessed at 7.5 points. According to data from DUS testing done in Poland, the Violeta variety of Bent grass is classified as an early developing large Bent grass variety forming medium stem and elongated inflorescent form.
